The timing chain in the 2.5L can begin to stretch and rattle over time. It’s a common issue and even though it’s stated to be a “Lifetime part” most VW enthusiasts decide to change them on a regular basis. This tensioner is imperative for keeping everything running properly. Without proper tension the timing set can skip a tooth causing potentially catastrophic damage.
